The sixth assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) started in Abu Dhabi on 16th January 2016, building on the momentum of the UN Climate Conference (COP21) in Paris. On behalf of the Government of Poland, Dr Sebastian Stepnicki, Permanent Representative to IRENA, performed the relevant duties as the Head of Delegation of Poland and the Chair of the Credentials Committee.
The two-day annual assembly was joined by the government officials from more than 150 countries and representatives from 130 international organisations to set the global renewable energy agenda and make concrete steps to accelerate the ongoing global energy transition.
The Assembly also discusses IRENA’s strategic and programmatic direction to help countries accelerate deployment of renewable energy, and in doing so, meet climate goals, boost the economy, and increase energy access and security.
In addition to this, the IRENA Assembly marked the opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2016, a global gathering of more than 30,000 energy leaders, experts and enthusiasts.
